New Moon Vs Full Moon and how to harness the power of astrological energy through simple ritual.
What is the difference between New Moon and Full Moon energy? Full moons are what we usually think of when it comes to the moon and astrology. This powerful time of the season has been known to influence the tides as well as people, after all the expression lunatic came from the term Lunar. Modern astrology and spirituality is placing more and more emphasis on moon cycles, moon gatherings and moon rituals. This time is best used to reflect on what has been cultivated and release things that no longer serve us, whereas the lesser known New Moon by contrast is an ideal time to reflect on our blessings and look forward to things we want to bring into our lives, whether that be habits or more tangible things. How can I relate this to the rest of the zodiac?
Just like Full Moons, each New Moon occurs in an astrological sign and each astrological sign has different qualities and meanings. If you want to take your ritual a step further you could base your journal prompt and manifestations on the relevant features of the season. For example typical traits of Cancer are emotions, home and family. So now would be a good time to reflect on how you are feeling, how you want to go forward and perhaps practice gratitude for all that you have that makes you feel grounded and secure. How to create a ritual at home?
Sometimes the idea of a ritual seems complicated and scary or even just a bit out there, but they can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make them. Essentially there are 3 main elements to creating a sacred space or ritual at home: Cleansing, Journalling and Intention setting. 3 main elements… Cleansing, Journalling and Intention setting. Personally I like to have a small altar, that way it is easier to create the feeling of a dedicated sacred space. I have a couple of candles, a few crystals and my oracle cards. If you just want a candle that works just as well. Some suggested crystals for a New Moon are clear quartz for energetic cleansing, labradorite and moonstone for accessing the power of lunar energy,
Any of these things you can do as much or as little as you like.
Cleansing and preparing: Whatever your set up, physically clean it. Dust it, wipe it and clear away any clutter from the area. You want the energy to feel fresh, new and clear in your space.
Energetically clean your space. Burning sage, palo santo or even incense will help to clear any negativity and provide an element of protection to your ritual. Also every time you smell the scent after you will be reminded of your intentions and it will be easier to effect real change.
Cleanse yourself. Take a bath or shower, use epsom salt. Use this time to relax, mentally and physically. Try to release any negativity and open your mind and heart to allow what you truly want to enter your life.
Create an environment. Light candles, play music, practice some mindful movement such as yoga or meditate. Creating the environment will create a head space and mind set where it will be easier to tap into yourself for journaling and forming intentions.

Journalling: Write down things that are going well, things you are grateful for. Think about the themes of the New Moon and how these are affecting your life. Set your intentions: Dig deep and truly reflect on what you want to bring into your life. Do you want to cultivate any new habits? Do you have things you want to bring into your life? Do you have any goals you would like to work towards? A good practice is to come back to these intentions when the Full Moon hits that astrological sign as this is a time for reflecting, letting go and ‘harvesting’ the seeds you have sown.
